Port Renfrew fishing is still going strong, as we near the official last days of summer.
The spring salmon fishing near shore is slow now, though there are still reports of a big chinook here and there. The big coho are in the San Juan Harbour now though, and we can fish for them close to shore, spincasting from the Jolly Rogers or trolling 10 feet deep or less. When you get into one of these 15 pound plus salmon, in shallow water, you’re in for some fun!
Offshore, Swiftsure Bank continues to deliver up some great fishing. There are still a lot of chicken-sized halibut out there, though they move around to different spots from day to day. There are also coho salmon, some big ones up to 20 pounds or more! And there are still feeder spring salmon, up to 20 pounds.
Below are some pictures from yesterday, taking Dale from Australia out for another trip. Dale caught his first halibut on the Jolly Rogers back in May, and now caught his first ling cod, first Canadian rockfish, plus a whole bunch of coho and spring salmon. Combine that with sunny, clear weather, and you’ve got a great day of west coast Vancouver Island fishing.
Come on out to Port Renfrew, and enjoy a great day’s fishing aboard the Jolly Rogers!
