May 26 Port Renfrew Fishing Report

Jolly Rogers has been having a great time fishing off Port Renfrew in the past week. Salmon fishing continues to be steady, with lots of medium size spring salmon up to 20 pounds and then a few here and there in the high 20s.

We chased halibut for the first time this year, and we're happy to report...halibut fishing season is open! On our first day, Dale from Australia reeled in a 110 pounder, 95 pounder, and 40 pounder. Great job Dale! Below are some additional pictures...when you do this well, you need a wheelbarrow. That is fishing Port Renfrew style!

Crabbing has been fantastic too, with dozens of big Dungeness in every trap.

If this is any indication of the season to come, Jolly Rogers is very excited...this is the best early season fishing in years. June is just around the corner and Swiftsure Bank is beckoning...we are looking forward to getting out there and getting into some of that fishing excitement that west coast Vancouver Island fishing is famous for.
