Springtime halibut fishing out of Port Renfrew has been great. We have been catching halibut in good numbers at hot spots off Carmanah Point, and Swiftsure Bank. Our usual baits of herring, salmon bellies and octopus are working well. Best bite times are during an ebb tide, but with good numbers of fish around, patience on the flood tide has been paying off also. Salmon fishing has been picking up, throughout May with catches of fish from 8-20 pounds. Salmon are feeding on needlefish, so small spoons or squirts behind a flasher are the lures of choice. Lots of sunshine this spring! There have been plenty Shorts and T shirt days through April and May. Salmon and Halibut fishing should continue to be productive until October, with Coho salmon showing up in July. If you are planning a fishing trip this summer, feel free to get in touch, there are a few dates still available.

JR can find the fish and make them bite. The fish cooler was overflowing and my arm was sore from reeling in the halibut and salmon. Sensational fishing and beautiful scenery off the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
