Getting Here

From the mainland, there are ferries from Tsawwassen (Vancouver, BC) and Anacortes/Bellingham, Washington which arrive in Sidney, BC, 5km North of Victoria. Flights to Victoria International Airport will also arrive in Sidney.

Sea planes as well as ferries from Seattle or Port Angeles will arrive in downtown Victoria.  If you are starting from downtown Victoria, you can skip this first set of instructions.

Driving from Sydney to Victoria: (~15 mins)

  • Drive south on the Pat Bay Highway #17 towards Victoria.
  • Exit at McKenzie Avenue -- exit says "Highway #1, Nanaimo".
  • Follow McKenzie Avenue 3 km to Highway #1, turn right onto Highway #1.
  • Continue with directions below.

Driving from Victoria to Port Renfrew (~2 hrs)

  • Exit Victoria on Douglas Road north, Victoria's main north-south street.
  • Douglas Road becomes Highway #1 as you leave Victoria.
  • Drive 5 km to Sooke exit.
  • Follow "Veterans Memorial Parkway" 4 km to Highway #14 ("Westcoast Road"). Turn right. This is the only road going west, all the way to Port Renfrew.
  • You will reach Sooke in approximately 25 minutes.
  • Continue on to Port Renfrew, roughly 80 minutes from Sooke. On the way, stop at Jordan River for a cup of coffee and a snack.
  • Drive carefully! It is a winding ocean road, often wet and foggy, and also with vehicles full of anglers and surfers sometimes driving too quickly to wherever they need to get to.

Finding Jolly Rogers Fishing in Port Renfrew (~2 mins)

  • You'll know you're nearing Port Renfrew when you start to see signs for accommodation and other businesses.
  • Pass by Deering Road, you will see the Fire Dept & Visitor's Centre on your left.
  • Continue 0.9km and turn right at the sign for Pacific Gateway Marina. Drive to the bottom of the hill and park.
  • If you get to Baird Road and Wild Coast Cottages, you've gone too far, turn back, road is 300m back! (or you can drive to end of Baird Road and walk down the long stairs to the dock).
